The task with this project was to design and manufacture an exhibit to showcase the potential of subtractive fabrication methods of the product “BauBuche” by Pollmeier. The wall-sculpture was supposed to be adaptive to different fair stand sizes and easy to install.

An important aspect of our parametric design is the gradual geometric transition from plain, unprocessed surface to organic, 3-dimensional pockets. The position and shape of each pocket follow an undulating master shape, decaying towards the wall’s overall borders.

The 21 vertical elements with a height of 2.8 meters can be combined to form a continuous wall with a maximum length of six meters. The surface was milled from BauBuche GL75 in various thicknesses up to 120 mm using CNC portal milling. None of the panels exceed a weight of 80 kg so that they can be assembled and disassembled by two workers without the use of heavy tools.
